Only a few miles from our home. Just returned from a "camping sabbatical" of sorts. I always go there for healing.

Klamath Tribe and Termination

The Klamath Tribe was on of the richest tribes & ironically was 1 of 3 tribes chosen to be "Terminated". This was the govt so called policy of assimilation. The original plan of allowing Tribes to not be dependent on the government and assimilate into popular society, was a good one. This program, if implemented by the recommendations of those who studies the indian culture, was ignored. The govt took a short cut and basically "bought" the tribes Timber and "took" their legal right to be native american, to claim it or write it, away. (See Vine DeLoria's "Custer died for your sins")

The book below gives a very microscopic view of this whole thing, it's classified as fiction. The author grew up here when it was still a rezervation, and is a well known "Local" Oregon, author.

Okay, Heather's email didn't work and she never checked back. So I need to redraw the names. My husband (the other half of the BleuzCatt Studio Duo) had a heart attack on 5/1 and is still in the hospital. So I am looking at drawing and sending the last week of this month.

Tomorrow I head to stay at near the hospital all week. It's about 90 min away. I have been there for all except 4 days since the first so that is why I cannot get to some things.

Heather's name was chosen to win the mocassins. She gets to choose an infant pair that is made, or to be made.

My daughter Hannah did the drawing and I will post photos tomorrow. My husband has bronchitis, he usually does it, so I need to check with his camera before posting.

Hannah said she wanted Misty to win because "she liked her name" so I am going to give her a "hannah consolation prize" just for fun.

The drum is a sacred object which many people play. I have seen a range from 3-7 locally. I do not have a photo of the drum at a pow wow, becuase it is "sacred" and we aren't allowed to take photos. HERE. It's always good when going to a pow wow, to observe the customs.

However, that fateful day, it wasn't a pow wow, it was the c'waam (pronounced ch wam) ceremony. In English it is suckerfish. This is to bless and welcome spring. You can read more about it here

I decided to move, there and then. After spring break, I returned home to Clovis (near Fresno) California.

I had "met" Tim online in a group where were both in, which he still runs today. It is a fellowship group for singles, but not a matchmaking group! He and his 2 kids (which he raised ) were 16 and 17. I then took my 2 kids (4 and 9) to Chiloquin.

I decided to move, based on my love for the Sprague. Anyone who has been through relationship hell like I have, KNOWS more often than not, people don't last.

However, River's do.
The Lord says the earth passes away but He doesn't. But, the Sprague River is pretty darn close to permanent as far as I am concerned!

This river "turns" into the Williamson River.

I did move in with Tim for a short while, then moved to Klamath Falls. The next town over, about 30 miles away. This is a situation when living in Chiloquin, it takes all day to run your errands in Klamath Falls.

Such is the price that is easily paid for Simplicity equals Freedom.

FLIGHT , the Birth of Bluezcatt, pt 1

In 2002, I was looking to move back to the NW from my hometown in Central Cal.

I was raised in the wrong state, because when I discharged from the Army at Ft Lewis WA in 1989, I was home.

Also my family, mom and sister didn't have time to be involved with us (kids 9 and 4) which was the main reason I moved back.

I "met" my future husband online in a group called Saved Singles Getaway, on Yahoo. He still owns this and it is simply a fellowship (not matchmaking) group for single Christians.

We because "friends" outside the group because we both had exes who had abused our children , and he helped me through the guilt I was dealing with.

I am and was then a Christian. Then like now though, I am tough in all areas except for emotional areas. So, I had made mistakes with men, this time composing a list so I couldn't talk myself into dating someone I shouldn't! I listed things for reasons I won't dwell on here.

The list had things on it like, "has to have photography as a hobby" and "has to be a single dad, preferably custodial parent". Tim had everything on the list, including these 2.

I was attending college and on my spring break in 2002, we came and visit Tim and his kids in Chiloquin Oregon. (His kids were 15 and 16 at that time)

One drizzling morning, I decided to go for a walk to the river that was about 3 blocks from Tim's house.

I hadn't visited it yet, and as I approached, I heard drums. I didn't know what was goign on, but I will NEVER forget that morning.

I stood on the shore enough away from the "event" to give privacy but still hear the *Drum. I stood in front of that river hearing her talk to me (the rushing of the water) and began the biggest love affair that would define my life.

Live What You Love

Natural color and texture, RED WILLOW against ASPEN. "Eddie's Camp", my favorite place to be out of reach. The story of Edison Chiloquin- He was the only Klamath tribe member who refused to sell his land, in 1954. During Pres Jimmy Carter's reign, he agreed to return the land to Eddie, as the check given for the land had never been cashed. Until he recieved the actual property back, a sacred fire was kept burning .. 7 years later, Eddie actually RCVD his land. He made the Indian Village to teach traditional methods and eat etc. Eddie died right before his 80th birthday, I think, resting in peace knowing he made his dream real, and he proved what was important in life.

FAMILY. Our oldest daughter lives on the Oregon Coast, many time I will work shells I find here into my work. Here is my youngest daughter and Me with the apple of my eye, our grandaughter Jazzy. She just turned 2 here, and I have had the honor of being the first one to take her to dance in the Pow Wow circle (she is a registered Chinook) and this was really her first time running from the waves.

In that context, connected with lightning, thunder and visions. Those who dream of the thunderbeings must become Heyokas -- those who live out their dreams backwards (Lakota tradition) The image has also been modified and used as the symbol of the Native American Church, founded by Commanche Quannah Parker around 1910.

The Water Bird is a symbol of the renewal of life, rainy seasons, rivers, distant travel, distant vision & wisdom. It is often also referred to as the Peyote Bird because the Water Bird plays a significant part in the Native American Indian Church Peyote meetings and, in fact, since the early 1900's has been the symbol of the NAC.

The Peyote/Water Bird is not a Southwest tradition, but one of the Plains Indians. The Peyote Bird is connected with lightning, thunder and visions. Those who dream of the thunder beings will become Heyokas, those who do things backwards, upside down, or opposite. This is a Lakota way of being. It is part of the medicine of the Heyoka to remind us that we should not take ourselves too seriously - that's why Heyoka is often translated as the "sacred clown".

New Native American Style Baby Mocassins

I have been working on mocassins for about 3 years. I have sold a few pairs in the 2 Rivers Art Gallery and of course, always make a new pair for new babies of friends and family.

However, it has been a lesson born of frustration. It always took me longer that it should have, and I was a very slow learner. I didnt' start sewing from a pattern until 3 years ago, plus am visual. I think that this is why.

Then one day a couple of months, I made my grandaughter's and finished my mocs, and everything clicked.

So now I am specializing in mocassins, and here are the results: The newborn pair are 20, not incl shipping and the toddler pair is 25, incl shipping. You can comment and email here, or go through to our etsy shop thru the sidebar link.

Oregon's wild west era structures Set

Wild West Era Buildings, 1800 to 1900's. The church was built in the early 1900's but is not surrounded by Downtown Portland. The old homesteads stands in memory to the indominatable American spirit. The dancers who travel to the Annual Chiloquin Pow Wow, set up their tipi's a short distance away from the arena.

Native American Style Hand Sewn Leather Mocassins

These are my first pair of mocassins since I have been learning how to make them! The beadwork is the color of my ribbon dress, that I wear to pow wows and some vending events.

These aren't for sale but you can buy an adult size pair with no beadwork, made from light brown deer hide for 30$-40$. (depends on size)

The toddler pair is for my grandaughter, these are a size 9.
Children's mocs run 15 for infant to 25 for toddler, with no or very little beadwork.

We took a quick overnighter to Eugene this weekend. Overnighters are my favorite because there is so little preperation and the visit is light too.
First I went to the swapbotter meet and that was fabulous! I learned about atc's, and inchies- i didn't know they were miniatures! Also met some friends and people to see again for crafting.

This is related to our freelance how? Well, having fun making something totally different is all part of the creative process. If I made the same thing all of the time, my work would not look fresh.

Beware of VistaPrint.com. Apparently when I ordered some "free" items back in September, I enrolled in a membership so I could recieve Ten Dollars off. Maybe I did this, but I probably clicked on it and then realized that I had to purchase a membership to recieve the discount.

Something IS fishy, as my bank acount wasn't charged until 4MONTHS later! Today! Granted I did call and there was no dispute and I was told my account will be refunded.

Upon googling this company, I found a TON of complains for the same thing. I am defintilely going to google in the future before I order anything from a site that is unaffiliated with a larger site!
